چکیده

Statistical entropy analysis (SEA) quantifies the dilution and concentration of conservative substances (e.g., heavy metals) in a system. In this paper, the SEA concept is extended (eSEA) to make it applicable to systems in which the chemical speciation is of particular importance. The eSEA is applied to a simplified region used for crop farming. The extent to which the region concentrates or dilutes nitrogen compounds is expressed as the change in statistical entropy (H). A detailed derivation for the calculation of H is provided. The results are discussed for four variations of the crop farming system, showing that the efficiency of crop farming can be expressed by eSEA.

Bivariate Extension of Past Entropy

Di Crescenzo and Longobardi (2002) has been proposed a measure of uncertainty related to past life namely past entropy. The present paper addresses the question of extending this concept to bivariate set-up and study some properties of the proposed measure. It is shown that the proposed measure uniquely determines the distribution function. Characterizations for some bivariate lifetime models a...

The Extension of Statistical Entropy Analysis to Chemical Compounds as Part of the Vienna Doctoral Programme on Water Resource Systems

i Abstract Statistical Entropy Analysis (SEA) is a quantitative evaluation method that determines the extent of concentration respective, dilution of a substance caused by a process or system. SEA has been repeatedly used for the assessment of losses of heavy metals from waste treatment facilities leading to a better understanding of the significance of concentration processes for sustainable m...

Transient Entropy Generation Analysis During Wustite Pellet Reduction to Sponge Iron

The present study carefully examined entropy generation during wustite pellet reduction to sponge iron. The finite volume method was used to solve the governing equations. The grain model was used to simulate the reaction rate. The reactant gases including carbon monoxide and hydrogen were converted to water and carbon dioxide after wustite reduction. Entropy is generated by heat transfer, mass...

Adsorption of Phenolic Compounds onto the Activated Carbon Synthesized from Pulp and Paper Mill Sludge: Equilibrium Isotherm, Kinetics, Thermodynamics and Mechanism Studies

A new activated carbon was produced from pulp and paper mill sludge as a low cost precursor via chemical activation by zinc chloride. The activated carbon was successfully used for the adsorption of phenol and two of its derivatives, i.e. 2-chlorophenol and 4-nitrophenol from aqueous solutions. The characterization of the prepared activated carbon demonstrated high textural properties for the s...
